Benton’s
Tea Tree serum is newest addition to the Tea Tree Line. It’s a soothing serum
formulated with 80% of tea tree water, but it also contains tea tree extract
and tea tree oil. Do you know that using plant waters in skincare instead of
plain water is not only beneficial for the skin, but also eco friendly? Manufacturing
plant waters still requires some amount of water to be used, but in most cases
it saves drinking water. It’s important as water shortage is a real issue not
only in Africa, but also around the World
.
Before I
will tell you more about the serum let’s talk a bit about packaging that is
also eco friendly. Benton has recently changed their packaging, and now you can
purchase their products in boxes made of 100% sugar cane, printed with soy ink
(I talked about it in my Benton Let’s Carrot Multi Oil review). I adore paper
boxes – they are so lovely and nice, but they aren’t as nice for environment,
so I love Benton’s new approach to packaging. They take a step forward with
their packaging of Tea Tree Serum. The bottle doesn’t feel luxurious at all –
it’s made of light, transparent plastic with sticker attached to it, but in
fact it’s very luxurious. I love its simple design, but what I love more is
that the bottle can be recycled easily. Transparent plastic is better for the
environment than colorful, cute packaging. I love that the container is airless
– it helps to keep the product more hygienic and fresh for longer and the
product doesn’t require a strong preservative system. The pump doesn’t have
metal spring, so the bottle can be easily recyclable. You can simply discard
the bottle without separating it after finishing the product. It takes
approximately 150 pumps to fully pump the content outside, so the serum is good
for 75-150 uses (it’s a 30ml bottle). I saw Tea Tree Serum for around $12-$18 –
I think there aren’t many skincare products in this price range with such
innovative container
.
The
main star of Tea Tree Serum is obviously tea tree (water, extract and oil).
It’s a great ingredient for oily, acne prone skin because of its
anti-inflammatory, antibacterial properties - it can inhibit overgrowth of
acne-causing bacteria and soothe the skin. Effectiveness of tea tree oil when
it comes to reducing acne can be compared to benzoyl peroxide. It can be also
beneficial in treating red, scaly and inflamed areas of the skin. Tea tree has
strong, earthy scent, so products containing tea tree oil may be uncomfortable
to use because of their scent. However fret not – Benton’s Tea Tree Serum
doesn’t have scent at all (it’s fragrance free and odorless, at least I can’t
smell anything), so if you love tea tree products, but you can’t bear their
scent – you should check out this serum. Except tea tree ingredients the serum
is formulated also with betaine (moisturizing), dipotasium glycyrrhizate
(soothing), panthenol (soothing), sodium hyaluronate (moisturizing), willow
bark extract (anti-inflammatory, exfoliating) and macadamia seed oil (enhances
skin elasticity)
.
Tea
Tree serum is recommended for oily, acne prone and sensitive skin types, but in
my opinion it’s suitable for every skin type that needs soothing. It’s a very
mild, gentle product with slightly acidic pH. I use retinal and I have oily,
acne prone skin, so to keep it breakout-free and irritation-free soothing
products are a must in my skincare routine. Benton’s Tea Tree serum is a lovely
addition to my AM routine (it works great also in PM routine, but I keep my
nighttime skincare very simple these days). It has lightweight texture. It
reminds me of aloe gels texture, except it’s more lightweight. It’s a bit
viscous at first, but on the skin it feels like water, if you know what I mean.
It absorbs quickly to matt finish, without leaving any kind of layer on the
skin, which makes it perfect for AM routine, under sunscreen and make up. It
works great with other products I use. I can’t say it’s the best soothing
product I ever tried and I don’t think it will work on severely irritated skin,
but it’s a great daily soothing product. I would say it’s better at prevention,
maintaining skin health and irritation-free complexion, rather than a product
that can reduce significantly already irritated and sensitized skin instantly.
However I have to admit that my skin wasn’t irritated as much this past 3-4
weeks, so I may be wrong on this one. The Tea Tree Serum has quickly got
promoted to my top fave Benton products. It feels literally like nothing and
leaves skin calmed down and balanced.
